Erick Javier Diago Remembered After Gulfstream 200 Emergency Landing Ends In Loss At La Romana International Airport On June 10, 2026

Erick Javier Diago of La Romana died on June 10, 2026, after a Gulfstream 200 business jet went down during an attempted emergency landing at La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.

Diago served as pilot, while Ruddy Ghaza served as co-pilot, and officials said they were the only two people on board.

The flight began in Puerto Rico, stopped in the Dominican Republic for refueling, and had planned to continue to Texas to pick up former Major League Baseball catcher Yadier Molina and others before returning to Puerto Rico.

Authorities said the crew reported an in-flight emergency shortly after takeoff while about 16 nautical miles southwest of the airport.

The aircraft touched down hard on the runway, skidded, bounced several times, and caught fire as emergency teams responded.

Dominican aviation authorities continue to review the cause, and the family will announce obituary and funeral service details later.
